Tawheed Summary (for children)

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
What is Tawheed?

Tawheed means to single out Allāh as the one and only true god in our belief and in our worship.  Below are some important concepts in understanding and practicing tawheed.

Tawheed ar-Ruboobiyyah is to believe that Allāh (alone) is the only Lord (al-Rabb) and Master of all that is in the heavens and the earth.  He has no partners with him.  He is the only Creator, Owner, Provider and Sustainer of all His creations in this life and in the hereafter.  Allāh has planed everything around us and He gives us peace, security and success in this life and in the hereafter.  Allāh is with us by His knowledge. He hears and sees us even though we do not see Him.  He knows everything that is happening around Him to all His creation.

Tawheed al-Uloohiyyah is to believe that none has the right to be worshipped, except Allāh (alone).  All our acts of worship must be solely for Allāh; He is the self sufficient Master, He does not need us but we all need Him.  All our prayers, charity, fasting, sacrifices, Hajj and other acts of worship should be solely for Allāh.  Whoever does not worship Allah (alone) and joins partners with Him, then he committed the worst sin (shirk).

Tawheed al-Asmā was-Sifa`āt is to believe in all the beautiful names and attributes of Allāh, as mentioned in the Qur’ān and as described to us by His Messenger, Muhammad (sAllāhu 'alayhi wasallam).  Allāh’ s names and attributes are not comparable to those of His creation.  For example, the attributes of hearing and seeing are attributes that we have, but they are limited.  Yet, Allāh’s hearing and seeing are perfect.  Therefore, He hears and sees everything that is in the heavens and the earth.  The more one knows about Allāh and His attributes, the more one will love Allāh, fear Allāh and have hope in Allāh.
